RE: 04' Cummins 370 Air Filter

The air filter was selected by the RV manufacturer (to meet Cummins guidelines of course) as part of their engineering to fit the engine into the RV. Your best bet is to contact the manufacturer to get a part number.

RE: Mail Forwarding Service~El Paso?

El paso county is one of the few in Texas that require emissions testing. If that makes a difference to you, you might want to consider an alternate home base, even if you winter in the El Paso area. Of course, Escapees is the premier mail forwarder for RVers in Livingston, Texas.

RE: 2 questions and some HDTV info..

Yes & Yes Note: If you buy a new TV from COSTCO, you get a COSTCO warranty in addition to whatever the manufacturer provides, plus you can return it within the first 90 days if you are not satisfied.

RE: Water pressure

Most of the RVs I've looked at have a SHURFlo City Water Inlet. This device includes a backflow preventer, and a pressure regulator. I've seen them rated at 35psi, 45psi, 50psi, and 60psi. All seem to be max rated for 125psi from the city pipes. Depending on your equipment, you may have to bypass the City Water Inlet to get a pressure increase inside your RV. If you have good static pressure inside your RV, but a low flow of water, you might check for a filter screen being clogged up at the water inlet, and also remove the aerators on your sink faucets and check them too.

RE: Answering machine that calls you if there's a message

I've seen software demonstrated that has two features. 1. It will answer your phone, record a message, then do a voice to text and send you an email with the message. Of course, you can still call in and retrieve the recorded message. 2. In response to a phone call from you, it can retrieve email messages out of your inbox and read them to you (text to voice). Since it stores everything on your disc, it's capacity is limited only by your disk storage. I don't remember the vendor or product name.

RE: Why didn't you.....

Here is a remark posted a while back: Let's create a scale to assess people's fulltimer prospects: At the "anchored" end of the scale, we have a couple with a "home town" where they were both born and grew up, where they have raised their children, where their schools, jobs, churches, friends, etc. etc. etc. remain. And this couple derives a very strong sense of self and security from owning (or long term renting) a piece of real estate in their home town. At the "floating" end of the scale, we have a couple who were born and grew up in different places, who relocated a number of times both before they met and married and have continued to move around since they became a couple, who have friends and relatives all over the country, and no strong ties to any particular place - but love almost every place they visit in the US and Canada. And this couple, having experience as home owners, sees real estate as a ball and chain that limits their adventures and consumes their time and efforts. There is no right or wrong here, just different strokes for different folks. My guess is that there are more people near the anchored end of the scale than the floating end. I suggest that people who find them selves nearer the anchored end of the scale will never be happy fulltiming, and if they try it, will find themselves yearning, then returning to the anchored lifestyle. At the other end of the scale, are people who are more likely to be more content in a fulltime lifestyle, and less likely to leave it until forced by circumstances.

RE: Any Old Computer uses on line?

Hmmm, I wrote my first computer program for the Bendix G-15 in 1959. As mentioned by 1995brave, there has never been a computer as awesome as the AN/FSQ-7. The SAGE computer drew enough electricity for a city of 100,000 and filled a huge multi-story building.

RE: BC Ferries

Ask for a round trip special fare when you go over. If you don't, you'll pay the same coming and going. If you get one, you'll save. I think you can find the details on their web site. PS, you don't have to use the same end points to get the savings.

RE: Thetford Parts

Most big RV dealers can order these kinds of parts and include them in their normal weekly (or so) parts order. This can be a big savings over ordering the parts as an individual for direct shipping.

RE: Onan 7.5 quiet diesel question

A step up transformer can derive 240 volts out from 120 volts in. However, there will be some loss in terms of total watts.

RE: bedroom LCD TV not working ??

In the settings did you switch it from cable to antenna or vice versa? yes, we did that 1st. We have tried everything, I think that there may be a cut in the ire somewhere??Get a piece of cable long enough, and a double female cable connector. Then connect the input into the front TV to the cable, and the other end to the back TV. If it gets all the cable channels now, then the problem is probably in the wiring. If it doesn't, the problem is probably in the TV. You can also reverse the patch cable and feed the signal from the back into the front TV for a second check.

RE: Retirees - Decision to Retire

Our income now is less than one-third of what we were making before we retired. We don't have pensions, just income from savings and investments, plus I get Social Security - wife is too young. We restructured our whole life by selling big house, second car, etc. etc. and using proceeds to pay off RV loan. Now we live a much more modest lifestyle, and love it.

RE: GPS Error

My Garmin 530 does that all the time. No matter what I set it to...bus, truck...what ever...it will try to run me either into a low overpass or down a road I really can't fit down. BeaveI've read that all the bus, truck, motorcycle setting does is change the vehicle look in the display - it has nothing to do with routing.

RE: Convection oven warps pans

We use the double pans (separate inside/top and outside/bottom crimped at the edge with an air space in between). No problem.

RE: Receiving mail in Canada

When we travelled through Canada on the way to Alaska, we just had our mail held and then forwarded to Tok General Delivery. It only took 2 days for Priority Mail from Texas to Tok. On other trips to Canada, we've had our mail sent to us in care of the place we were staying rather than to a Post Office. We used the reduced price 3-day FedEx service which worked well. However, be advised that some mail (like prescription drugs) won't be allowed at all, and if you are receiving something that has to be processed in customs (like an RV part - I guess anything except just paper mail), the delay may be a couple of weeks or more in transit.

RE: New Dish From Directv

Existing dome antennas will not be able to see the new KA satellites at 99 and 103 (Thought it was 93 and 103) in fact, they can't see them now. Just curious as to why? Is it something about the signal or could the dome be reprogrammed to "see" these signals like they do with the 101? Ka uses higher frequencies than Ku and so needs a different LNB.

RE: Crossing the Border into QC from Vermont

We crossed at the end of I-89 a couple of years ago. It was the most intense border crossing we've ever had. They spent two hours searching the RV. My wife and I were separated and interrogated at length. They took our passports and drivers licenses and did multiple computer searches. Of course, in the end, we were free to go after we put the RV back together. Surprisingly, they didn't even look inside our Saturn - go figure? I should add that they were polite throughout.

RE: Social Security Early----Or Not

The social security payouts favor women over men. The pay scale is based on age, but everyone knows that on average, US women out live men by 7 to 8 years. This means that no matter what age you start drawing social security payments, women will collect more than men. Since most people don't know how long they are going to live, on average, men can maximize their payout by taking social security early, and women can maximize by waiting to start.

RE: Thetford Aria Classic

We switched to the Sealand Concerto. It is electric, but that wasn't a problem. The whole toilet structure is one piece of ceramic. It is large and sturdy and comfortable with the longer bowl. If you don't mind the electric, you might want to take a look.
